Shopify's AI memo should worry you (here's why)

Hey,

Last week, Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke sent out a memo:

“Before asking for more people, show why AI can’t handle it.”

Think your job is safe? Think again.

Big companies are spending billions on AI.

They’re also cutting staff. Shopify itself had two rounds of layoffs already.

They fired 20% of their staff.

Shopify is shifting from work-life balance to a high-performance work culture. Lutke said there’s a “fundamental expectation” that employees use AI in their daily work.

If you think this doesn’t affect you, you’re dead wrong.

In the next few years, companies (especially tech) will pour billions into exploring how they can use AI instead of human employees.

Cut costs, become more productive, get a competitive advantage.

More AI, fewer jobs.

This week it’s Passover. It reminds us how fast things change and how important it is to have a Plan B—especially before things spin out of your control.

Don’t let AI dictate your future. Take control today:

  • Figure out your human edge (the skills AI can’t replace).
  • Use AI to boost your productivity, not replace you.
  • Create income streams independent of your main job.

The next “Shopify memo” could land sooner than you’d like.

It’s time to set your Plan B in motion. Freedom comes from having options.

I’ve been able to harness the AI to help me build and operate my solo business in under 2 years (I’m slow, I know), and I have been profitable since year 2 (2025) with huge margins.

I wouldn’t have been able to do that without AI. It is my superpower.

It should be yours too.

Ohad
