The single space most people miss
The No Barrier Reef 🪸
Gideon called me earlier today.
We’ve worked together for years. He knows his stuff. But it was stuck on page 3 of the App Store search results.
“I’ve tried everything,” he said. “Better screenshots. New description. Nothing moves the needle.”
I pulled up his listing while we talked.
Then I saw it.
“You’re using ‘chatbot’ in your title?”
“Yeah, of course. That’s what we build.”
“Check your top competitor.”
He paused. “They use ‘chat bot.’ Two words.”
One space. That’s it.
That was the difference between page 3 and page 1.
It sounds minor, but this kind of detail matters more than most people think.
Here’s what most founders miss about app store optimization:
Your listing has two jobs.
Convert visitors into users, sure. But first, it needs to be found.
And being found means understanding exactly how people search.
Not how you think they search.
Not how they should search.
How they actually type into that search bar.
The precision game nobody talks about:
While you’re obsessing over features and benefits, your competitors are winning on spelling variations.
“ecommerce” vs “e-commerce” “AI powered” vs “AI-powered” “realtime” vs “real-time” These aren’t typos. They’re different search queries.
Different queries mean different rankings.
Different rankings mean different businesses.
Here’s how to fix it:
Pull up your top 5 competitors right now.
Copy their exact titles into a doc.
Look for patterns - Not in what they say, but in how they spell it.
Are they using hyphens? Spaces? Specific capitalizations?
There’s a reason.
They’ve already done the testing. Use their data.
This is exactly what I do during audit calls.
No guessing. No attachment to how things “should” be written.
Just fresh eyes and real data on what actually works.
Sometimes the difference between invisible and in-demand is just one space.
Gideon spotted the issue during our call.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they make the change — it’s a simple tweak with big upside.
What tiny detail could be holding your app back?

PS: I only have two spots opening up in September for app listing optimization. If you want someone to find your “chat bot” moment, reply to this email.
